An epic day

Last Friday was the last day of our vacation in Obergurgl and it was epic! It had been snowing lightly since Wednesday and from Thursday evening until Friday morning it continued snowing a bit harder even so this was the view we got from our apartment on Friday morning:

So we got up a bit earlier than normal and went all the way up with the Hochgurglbahn I and II which brought us up the mountain around 10 AM. At that time the unimaginable happened... the sun was starting to shine a bit over the mountains!

Can it get any better?! At least 20cm of fresh pow... almost nobody on the mountain yet and the sun shining... legendary!!
So we started off with some near piste tracks riding fresh lines and later on went up up all the way to the Top Mountain Star at 3080m to ride some steeper real off-piste track. Going down right here:

Also made movies of us going down this slope:

So all and all we ended up riding fresh tracks and first lines all day. Who needs pistes anyway right? ;-) And off course to close an epic day and a very nice holiday in the Ötztal, we had some drinks :)

This time we're in Obergurgl!

Where? Yes in Obergurgl. It lies at 1800 metres above sea level in the Ötztal in Austria, just south of Sölden... and I can tell you it's great here! My girlfriend and I booked an apartment for the two of us, although it's actually a 6 persons apartment, but we got it for half the money, I like last-minute booking ;-)

This morning we went up the mountain. Because of the hight of the area, the snow is still pretty fresh, luckily the rain of last week didn't have much impact on the conditions here. Today was a very sunny day and even a bit warm, which was very relaxing ;-)

First day on a snowboard since almost a year ago, but that wasn't a problem at all. It's just like riding a bicycle. Once you get the hang of it you'll never forget how to ride.

The weather prognosis for this week is a bit warm and sunny until Tuesday and then the temperatures start to drop, especially at the end of the week.
In the middle of the week probably a fresh layer of snow. Hopefully at least 20 centimeters, fingers crossed! :-)
